LINDA CABRERA ART COLLECTIONS
It is all in the detail. My work is a combination of realism and folk art, showing the laid back and colorful island life in which I was raised. I strive to add energy to my paintings by including people, animals, birds, that are all a part of my “Conch” upbringing. I not only endeavor to portray my life as a child growing up in Key West, but also the island as it exists today through the eyes of the many people who visit throughout the year.
In my latest work, you will see Key West as it was long-ago. In walking the neighborhoods I am reminded of how things once were. I bring my own memories into each piece, lovingly taking the extra time to add details, whether it’s a sign on a building that once was, or children playing in the streets chasing after ice cream trucks, all reminiscent of my past. As my paintbrush glides over the canvas I can hear the fire bell ringing in the distance, people talking on the street, probably spreading the latest gossip, or mothers calling their children to come home for dinner. I find myself going back in time and being lost in my painting as memories surface and come to life. My greatest joy is realized when someone views my art and tells me of their own special memories. I consider it an honor to be a part of someone’s story. My paintings are not just places, people or things; they are memories of a simpler time and places in my heart.
